    Flashable td5 ECU needed

    Hi all,

I need to find a flashable ECU suitable for a 2000 Discovery td5 auto. I am struggling to locate any at a reasonable price.

Anyone have any suggestions or know of someone that has one.

I believe the parts numbers that are compatible are:

    NNN000130 or
    NNN500030

    Cheers

I'm guessing this is to replace the non-flash one that comes standard?

If you're doing an ECU upgrade, the advice that I have been given is to do the upgrade using the non-flash ECU (with a new chip) because they are able to run better programs.
    Cheers

    Thanks for the advice Slunnie,

Yes i am looking at replacing the non flashable one to enable a remap by Mark GREENAWAY of Beechboro 4x4 in Malaga, W.A. (was recommended to me).

I had considered the ECU chip swap first, but i am not aware of anyone doing their own quality unit in WA (want the back up of someone local) and i have been advised (by someone i trust my landrover with) to be wary of one or two of the companies who do the replacement chip (Not all of them).

It is due to some problems with chips dying that this person doesn't have any flashable ECU's left.

You now have me again wondering which way is best!?!?

    Cheers

Yes but you can flash it to suit any vehicle? At least that is my understanding?

    Thanks Scott,

But my understanding is that you can put one from an auto into a manual (though it may still show up error codes, but you cannot go the other way..

Checked a couple of past threads in regard to this first to get the part numbers that are compatible.

    Cheers

    Hi Bullfrog.
I run a flashable ecu in my 99 D2 manual.
Be aware there are issues with the flashable programes being suited to the higher injection pressures of the EU3 Motor they are designed for.
    I get the following issues.
-Temp sender faults(goes away when I fit the original ECU)
-Surging when light throttle at higher revs.(I belive this is related to injection pressures)
-Hi coolant temp under load(hills and towing),may be related to the ECU temp fault issue as the temp fluctuates quite a bit.(Nanocom reading, dash wouldnt tell you). Its quite possible that high EGTs are causing high coolant temps under load,a big intercooler hasnt changed the readings.Injection pressures may also be involved here too.
-"problem detected with auto trans",its a Defender ECU in a manual D2,the ECU shouldnt know what and auto trans is!!!
Marc at Beechboro did my ECU tune, its fairly strong and has a very good powerband.I have also put a Toombie Nanocom ECU tune into Aaron40s D2 auto,PM him to see what he thinks of it,not as strong as mine.
ECUs are readily available fairly cheap on UK EBay,you may even find a proper chiped non-flashable ECU on there, much more common in UK.
If you do get a UK ECU and need it coding to suit your vehicle I have a Nanocom and can do it,Im in Williams.

I was under the impression that the maps used on a flash chip should be different between the update and preupdate engines.

Pretty sure I read on here Flashable ECUs only work as they should on the upgraded EU3 engines they are designed for due to the higher injection pressure.
The Chip upgrade on the MSB ECUs do suit the lower injector pressures,of the pre EU3 engines is the way I have understood the differences.
Happy to be told Im wrong if its the case.
