How to change from hi to low on 88 RRC Auto?

Can anyone inform me on the correct way to change from hi to low and back? i was having a crack at it while in neutral and only managed to get the diff lock to engage (orange light) i dont wanna try any harder incase i damage anything. unfortunately i dont have any manuals and a google search has brought back nothing.

    thanks

Not an expert but have similar difficulty and reluctance to damage anything. However, I've found that mine goes into high or low more easily by getting it into diff-lock first and working it too and fro. If unable I crawl forward or back and try again in neutral. My last resort is to try whilst moving slowly. Hard to imagine any damage to the linkage but wouldn't want to be moving too fast in the last resort.

The transfer gears will often be reluctant to move simply because there is still some pressure on the from one side or the other; usually you can get it into neutral easily enough but unless the gears are aligned it will not go into the range you are trying to select. Whilst it (transfer) is in neutral, if you move the auto shifter from d to r and back to neutral, this moves the transfer gears and enables them to line up. If you can't get it into neutral even, do the same thing.

ahhh ok so is it designed to be changed whilst not moving then? rolling slow is just easier? anyone still have a manual for these things? if so what does that recommend?

My RRC has sticker next to the heater controls.
It basicly states to reduce speed to less than 8KM/H, select nuetral, move from high to low, select D or R as needed.
Same for going low to high.

Both the Disco and RRC slip in easy when moving, to quick and you get a horible noise
    Cheers, Kyle

When changing from low to high, I'd stop the vehicle, select neutral, take foot off of brake, engage low range, put foot on brake, then engage gear.

I'd do the same from low to high.

Being an automatic you can't 'change on the fly' so to speak like you can in a manual - talking low range to high range here obviously.
