Thread: Pre purchase inspection on a Disco I

Hi all,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who's looking at a 1998 Disco 300tdi. I'm going round to look at it with him tomorrow and would love some advice on common problems to look out for.

It's already failed my initial inspection when I checked: Is it a Defender? That got a big red cross from me

Jokes aside, the stuff I've found on the web or would normally look for anywhere so far are:

Rust in the sills, wheel areches, boot floor and footwells.
Check the timing belt has been changed regularly and a good service history.
Oil leaks (well, excessive oil leaks )

Anything else worthwhile checking over while I'm over there?

Apologies for asking this since it has probably been asked a million times but I'm horrible at web searches.

Also placed in Tech Chatter to get a few more views from Defender owners as well.

*Edit*: Thought I might add that it's done 160k and is just over $6, seems pretty reasonable to me, maybe too reasonable though?

Is it a manual or Auto, at $6 it would have to be a good buy, $4 change from 10 bucks, Regards Frank.
