    Airbag suspension into DII

I know most people change the airbag suspension to springs, but is it possible to do it the other way around. I have always liked the ride of an airbag vehicle. Is it a hard task?

I dont mind the maintenance issues (If I did i wouldnt have bought a DII). The vehicle in question is a 2003 DII ES

It's very easy to convert coils to a manual airbag system. I converted my series one discovery and had no problems. Remember when you do if you want the best ride you will need to change shocks as they are significantly different. The hardest part is the relocation of the front shock to outside the coil. I found a set of shock mounts of a eas range rover classic that bolt straight in for the upper mount ( need to remove a bit of inner guard) and welded on a piece of flat 6mm plate to the axle that worker fine for the bottom. If you want to ask about the details give me a ring (Scott 0435188123).

To get the factory EAS sorted the hardest bit would be the loom and sensors. If you have an ES (7 seats) all the bits (height sensors, compressor) should be there as they were standard with the rear SLS. You need the bags, remove the spring seats to fit bags. The BCU has 2 settings that will need to be updated (nanocom) to enable the system. Assuming the system was removed the compressor would need to be checked / renewed. First job is to check what is there and what isn’t – get hold of RAVE manual as a guide. Then you would need to fix the problem that prompted the removal.

Like SLloyd I too converted a D1 to mechanical controlled air back in 1999, the RRC components fit and you rid the system of electical problems, but to make it "self leveling" with mechanical valves you need a good compressor.

As SLloyd states you must change the shocks to a unit valved for air or else it will be horrible.

    If talking factory SLS

You can change over to factory SLS and will obviously need the air bags, lines, compressor and sensors. You may or may not also require the wiring loom from the ECU and main fuse box relays etc.

IMO simply not worth the effort for the time and dollar outlay. Just get some Polyairs to asist your coils.

If you want SLS get a truck with it. If you just want stand alone air bags on this truck, again not worth the effort.

    cheers

Thanks for your thoughts now I have some thinking to do. If I do the conversion I will post pictures for others.
