Thread: 350 Chevy engine into a 1996, series 1 Discovery.

Question 350 Chevy engine into a 1996, series 1 Discovery.

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to fit a 350 Chevy engine that is currently in a 1984 Range Rover into a 1996 Series 1 Discovery.

Will the 350 fit straight in or does it need more modifications, I have been informed that the conversion kit on the 350 is still the same one that is used today.

What I need to know is, can I use the 1996 Transmission or would I have to use the Range Rover transmission.

I am hoping to be able to just drop the engine in and couple it up to the Discovery transmission.

I hope all this makes sense.

    Thanks.

Depends on the transmission, is it an auto or a manual

Adaptor plate Is the same, so long as it's a plate, without mor info or preferably a visual it's hard to tell for sure, but you can purchase the crank adaptor to suit the zf transmission separately although it takes alot of persuasion, also search on here for a thread I did 350 to disco, I'd link but using my phone

I don't have the 84 motor and transmission as yet but from what I remember of that car (which my friend owns) it has the 3 speed auto in it.

The 350 (all steel) is a heavy bludger - about 40kg more than a 308. Alloy heads are cheaper for a chev than a 304/8 but still pumps up the price.

It'd be good fun, but all that extra torque goes downstream and might stress the driveline too much, causing premature failures..

    Have fun with it.

Cast iron might be the material you are thinking of there...

    Aren't you putting a 4bd1 in a disco?

How do you figure the weight difference? Holden and small block chev are near enough, not 40kgs different
