Hi,
I have an all iron 350 with gas heads in a RRC. The weight is not an issue with correct springs. Mine is in front of a 3 speed C9, which is fine with the lazy extra torque of the motor.
It has done well over 400,000 k's since it was put in by a previous owner, with nothing being touched except F&R crank seals.
The benefits............ no electronics, all parts are dirt cheap (starter motor $120, water pump $110 etc).
On gas (dinosaur Impco never properly tuned) it gets 4 k's per litre. About the same cost to run as a diesel.
Any of the LS series would be nice, but I can't even justify recoing mine while it still runs fine.
