3/8 drive sockets. Why?

My father got one in the 1950s (he worked in the aircraft manufacturing industry at the time, although he bought it, I recall, to do a top overhaul on our Austin 16), but his mechanic son-in-law repeatedly borrowed it, as he did not own one until the 1970s.

Caterpillar 3400 and 3500 series engines; 3500 series are impossible to build without 3/8" drive. Working on big machinery 3/8" is also lighter to carry up and down stairs/ladders all day. My 3/8" torque wrench tops out at 100ftlb, so anything up to about 80 sees the 3/8" kit get a work out
