    removing bearing races

    Hi Peoples.
Im putting new bearings on the boat trailer.
It has Ford Slimline bearings, the races are a fair bit thiner than I have dealt with on normal trailer bearings in the past.
I couldnt shift one of the races today, mostly because I cant get a drift onto the edge too well.
How do those in the know deal with them??? I dont have acsess to a press.
I was thinking of tack welding pipe to the race and belting the pipe out.Any problem doing this???
    Thanks
    Andrew

grab the welder, run a bead around the inside of the race, wait for it to cool.

if that doesnt work, run another bead over the first one wait for that to cool

if that doesnt work drift it out on the back of the second bead.

I have previously used the angle grinder to waste the inner race off a stub axle. Thin it down and you can crack it easily with a cold chisel.
