Classic: Locking/alarm problems
G'day fellow Landrover owners.

I am sure I've read about this problem on the forum before but a search has failed to reveal anything, maybe because I didn't use the right word combination in my search.
Yesterday my daughter went to lock her 93 Classic (she always uses the key as the fob only works intermittently) the buttons went up and down, opened the door and the alarm activated
, waited till noise ceased, (alarm remained active with the key in or out) after several tries with the fob it finally worked
, locking mechanism performed as above but the alarm was deactivated
.
Drove to town, parked the car, didn't lock it, away for a couple of hours, opened the door, alarm activated, waited till all was quiet, inserted key and all functioned as it should.
Parked in the shed overnight with the key in, no problems on entry this morning, brought her down to the house, went through the routine, same results as above except after fob deactivation I could remove the key, open and close the door without activating the alarm, my daughter suggested it may be a time related thing. Also we noticed for the first time a small red light in the parcel pocket in the dash centre, presume this is the alarm activated light, goes out on start up.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Jhonno

This isn't a solution, but maybe a work around -
First question is it a one button Landrover factory alarm? If so, it's the 17vt. You can get a blanking plug to isolate the alarm and central locking from a MA Disco (without an alarm). If it's something else, all bets are off.

If all the connections are good, and the alarm is still playing up, there are a few people in the UK who sell the used alarm module with fob(s). I bought a replacement from somebody on ebay uk, just note that the freq is a little different from Australian versions.

HI langy
Thanks for the info, the fobs have landrover imprinted on the so I guess it is the factory alarm, will get the wiring diagram and check all connections and proceed from there.
Sure is some intro into my first endeavour into the mysteries of the more advanced landrover electronics, makes my 87 dedicated gas look pretty simple.
I guess MURPHY must be on my case to land me with this one.
Cheers J
