my original post was more at obtaining then using genuine parts.

The problem is that any wear marks on the ball will quickly kill the new parts requiring early replacement of the already replaced parts..

I agree it's an unknown quantity at this stage but there were no wear marks on the ball surfaces. I'm nothing if not a cheapskate and I enjoy discovering ways of repairing throwaway components. The money i might save from not having to ever buy another ball joint will help keep fuel in the tank and beer in the fridge
