    misfiring td5 disco

hi all, new to the site and have a small (confusing) problem with my 2003 td5 disco automatic trans that i'm hoping someone out there may have a solution for. it misfires when trying to go into kick down while manually driving it, but on the flip side i can set the cruise control at say 110-120 k's or so then slow right down to 50 k's or so and hit the reset on cruise control and it gets up and goes no problem in kick down reving up to 4000 revs no worries and no misfire. can also ease it up to 110-120 k's (round 2500 2700 rpm) no worries as long as i stay just out of or on the borderline of it wanting to go into kick down mode. also if i keep pushing it while misfiring the engine and gear box warning lights will come on, when this happens i pull over and turn it off and can restart straight away with no problems and no warning lights and drive off as normal. have cleaned very small amount of oil from ECU with no improvment. any idea's would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

I would investigate "oil in the injector loom" on the forum, then "MAF died".

Then investigate the turbo wastegate modulator because wide throttle openings from around 2500 rpm can cause excessive boost with a dead modulator which then triggers fuel cut-out.

If it works ok via the cruise control it is the throttle position sensor( on the accelerator pedal)
Oil in the loom or boost modulator will give the fault regardless of cruise control or pedal acceleration.

    Cheers

Thanks Mick for this timely question.
Yesterday, my '00 Td5 started to miss also - has never happened before. Mild acceleration shes ok but once over about 2500-2600rpm, she'll start to miss and like you, just before the kick down point. If I floor it, misses and nothing really happens. Steepish hills she's lucky to do 50km/h. I was also thinking fuel pump starting to fail but will check the other points raised above. Thanks again.

    fixed misfire on td5 disco

thanks to all on this site/forum for your ideas and suggestions.great site. it appears i've fixed the misfire problem . after cleaning out a tiny bit of oil in the red plug on the ECU with no improvment, today i cleaned out bit of oil contamination on the injector loom/harness plug at the front left side of the engine under the engine cover with metho and air compressor. (as the last service i had done they had over filled it by half a litre or so ). so when i got it home some 100 k's later i drained the excess out. may have been the cause????? i also found a couple of loose-ish clamps connecting to the turbo (only a turn or so at most) also sprayed some CRC around here and there and its back to its old self . gets up and goes as good as new!!!!! but not really sure exactly what the cause was??? maybe a combination????? anyway its back to normal. thanks to all. new to the disco's as we've only had it 6 months or so. not sure if i should mention this on a landrover site but we always had landcruisers before the disco, 80 series turbo diesel which unfortunately i wrote off, and 100 series petrol. but we love our disco
