the orange colour just comes from age......and being constantly in fuel.....

it wouldnt have started a fire in your tank cos theres no oxygen in there......


a loose connection is what causes the terminals to burn out from constant arcing.....
and the constant sloshing of the fuel moves them around even more...making it worse.......
