Checked everything - ended up being the starter motor contacts.... starts fine now!

Now onto every other problem the TD5 has....

    1. Loud squeal on startup and shut down. It has a new belt and tensioner. Maybe crank pulley/damper????

    2. Loud squeal at 1900-2100rpm on heavy(ish) acceleration. ?'manifold gasket

    3. Clutch pedal is very loose for the first 3cm of travel. Just has a springy twang sound, like a spring is buggered or something. And take up point is high.

    4. Gearbox has a whine, which appears to be only while in gear and moving, clutch out, increases with revs.

I will get this thing working again at some point!

    Any ideas????

Check exhaust manifold studs, possible warped manifold has popped some. loose nuts and soot will be the give away sign.

This is common to every Landy I've ever owned (Series 3 and Defenders)

Same as above but transfer not gear box.

I will get this thing working again at some point.
I hope you do, plenty have, good luck!.

    Thanks mools.

The clutch twang and feel has only started over the past two months and the vehicle only has 140k. The ? transfer box whine has also only started about 3 weeks ago and is quite noticable and definately wasn't there before.

Changed the gear and transfer oil but no difference noted.

Is there anything else that may create a whine in that area? Seems to be most noticable in 5th and at speeds above 65kph. Can't hear it at low speeds. But is there at higher speeds on and off the throttle, but not while clutching in. Also can't hear it when clutching in at 70kph and giving it a rev or two.

I would be a little dissapointed if these were just 'landie things', as they just don't seem right.
