wow Ron i presumed everyone knew about the existing thread pattern in the self tapping holes.
I was reading an HP printer service manual yesterday and came across this tip. I've never heard of it before and it makes sense. I'll be less likely to strip or damage self-tap holes now.
To install a self-tapping screw, first turn it
counter-clockwise to align it with the existing
thread pattern, then carefully turn clockwise to
tighten.
