    Question What tyres??

I’m looking for new tyres for my defender puma, which has 235 x 85r x 16 Continental AT'S, from when I bought it new.

I went on a trip into the Simpson a couple of months ago, and found them a bit narrow in the sand. I also had some trouble with side wall damage, as the walls seem to bulge a fair bit wider than the tread with this particular tyre. They are Great on the highway, so I dont want to get silly with a huge tyre. I would just want to compromise a little and get something wider.

I dont mind if the tyre is slightly larger in diameter either. I understand the downsides of speedo readings and fuel economy. I'm just after an AT that runs ok on the tar, and has a bit more width for the soft stuff.

    Has anyone any recommendations?

Not sure how you would go fitting wider tyres onto the rims if the Puma still has the 6.5" rim like the tdi. There are bead problems to consider.

I have a tdi and have just bought 8x8" rims to fit 265 tyres. 5 for the car and 3 for the camping trailer.

This can also be a problem as you are only supposed to go 1" over the original wheel size to be legal, so I am told. But I dont think they make a 7.5".

When I bought mine it had 235 BF A/Ts and the guy said they were great on sand. I have not seen them with low air to see how the walls ballooned. They are still on but comming off soon. Looking at them fully inflated the walls do not seem to stick out too far.

Hope this helps to get you started on research.

If you have standard alloys they will be 7"wide.

You can run a 265 x 75 x 16 tyre on these rims - they will be approximately the same diameter as your current tyres.
