    rear main oilseal td5

    Hi all,
Looks like I have to replace the rearmain oil seal on the disco.(auto)
    Anyone got any shortcuts??.
I replaced it when I removed the converter to beef up the lockup clutches (about 100th clicks ago)

    Can't think of any shortcuts!

Either the engine or box has to come out!

    Use a genuine seal

    good luck

First of all are you 100% sure it is the rear main seal leaking? I have never replaced 1 yet on a Td5, always been oil leaking down from rear of rocker cover or cam box rear plug etc rather than rear seal. It then fills up the cavity behind the sandwich plate and LOOKS like it is coming out of the bellhousing etc.
