    SVX Head Lights into 98 110 Defender

    Hi All

    I was telling my mate the acting senior seargent at the local trafic branch about my plans to put an SVX light kit into my 98 Defer.

    He just smilled and said "great I need the extra ticket". It turns out that you must have self leveling suspension to be able to install HID lights as your main lights.

    He said they are getting the young blokes all the time for putting HID lights into their Nissans etc.

    Just thought I would pass it on, this is for QLD, forgot to ask about the other states.

    All right, I'll take a nibble of the bait....

    In shrt,

    * DON'T.

    *It's illeagal,

    *Aginst ADR's.

    * Some forum member(s) have fantasies about shooting out HID headlights, myself included.

    * Retro-fits invariably have an unfriendly level of Dazzle (Magic word as used in ADR) for other drivers... Never seen one - including my own attempt- that was'nt unsafe/umpleasant.

    * It takes a lot of time, interest, knowledge and effort to make your HID kit less dazzling. Don't even bother if you have a cheap kit...

    *On country roads moths tend to turn towards your now brighter low beam.

    * Some moths drive cars...

    * Worst of all.... I'll bombard you with lots of words, arguments, vitriol, bolded italics, coloured text and punishing punctuation.... You're not worried ?- check my previous posts !!!

    On the bright side, I'll be more than happy to help you put HID spotlights, or Hi-beam only lights or LED bars or 24" naval searchlights on your truck.

    Or one of these beasties, which is as big as it looks.

    Actually, ignore all of the above, seeing as you're in Queensland...so I'm not likely to see your HID headlights, or need to chat to your local Senior Sergeant !

    Yep, no question about the spots etc, I should have said low beam instead of main lights. The kit I was looking at is the exact SVX kit, well over $1k. Still not allowed.

    Not sure myself, but they use the self leveling thing as the 98 did not come standard with the HID light kit.

    The SVX has this as standard factory fitment, comes under a different set of laws, stupid.

    ...and must have headlight cleaning devices.

    From memory, must operate every time the lamp is turned on... - but don't quote me on this one.

    The real killer is the glare level, which will be "gauged" - not defined... can come down to opinion...which is open to challenge.

    A good place to start is way back here... http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...on-kits-2.html

    IF you go ahead, remember that you get what you pay for... if you're lucky.

    HIDs present the same imbuggerance as halogens did back in the late 60s/early 70s they're a damned menace when improperly fitted and even when they're legally done, they cause problems to oncoming traffic when cresting hills etc. Dashed if I know why they're needed at all in well lit suburbs end of rant
