    Cracks in Me Door!

    Ever since I got this car I've wondered at a noise I get when I open the drivers door.... sort of a cracking sound.
    Well, the other day I was just sitting in the car with the door open (was 32 degrees), and look what I found....

    This is my drivers door...anyone else had this? getting my MIG mate to fix it all tomorrow

    Well it's all fixed now. Once I removed the actual hinges a couple of bits of the door actually just fell out!
    Didn't notice before but the metal on the A pillar was also cracked where the door check strap is attached.
    It would seem that this is not all a design fault..... My vehicle was previously owned by a surveyor, it was used by his employees. I get the feeling that the cracking was the result of plain ordinary carelessness when opening the door, either letting it swing out when on a downhill slope, or not hanging onto it when opening in a strong wind.
    Anyway, I now know how to remove the door, unhook all the electrics inside it and then get it all working again. Only wish I had the welding skills my mate Bill has, he's done a great job. Will post some pics tomorrow.... just need to get some paint on it asap.

    Thinking of spraying some Lanotec up into the door to stop rust now that all the paint has gone on the inside surfaces... will this do the job? Can't really use paint in there as it will end up over the window winder assembly and besides, cant get into the top corner, either with a spray can or a brush. I'm thinking that if I just spray enough Lanotec in there it will spread out and provide the rust protection. Any other ideas are very welcome.

    Many miles on corrugated roads may also do it,particularly if the tyre pressures are to high.Was only onedoor like that or all doors?
    One of my brothers lives in Darwin,& he knew of one that had similar damage to yours,had been on very badly corrugated roads all it's life.
    You should probably also check where the body mounts on the chassis as well near the front doors,as they crack there as well.Was a recent thread on this somewhere.

    Thanks Scarry.Only the drivers door is affected.
    The other likely places for cracking were checked before I bought it by Fred Smith Automotive, he's also serviced the car for all but the first 2 years of its life.
    It does seem possible that a lot of corrugated roads were the cause but the fact that the actual door and A pillar were distorted leads me to thinking that the laziness and carelessness of company car drivers is more likely.
