It all helps to get a good answer.
I have a prob with this Disco, i tried for months and it has been to 2 mechanical workshops, a auto electrion and $1000 later and i still have a broken down car.
Here is the run down.
Bought a secondhand engine and installed it, the prior owner said the engine was good before there accident.
I have done a compression test on all cyld and they are all in same ball park of 120-30psi.
The engine blows a dump load of black smoke especially at idle ( well at least more noticeable). On the road the engine feels strong and pulls well, there is no death rattles etc so i think the engine is good.
I have replaced the temp sensor.
Tried my old fuel temp sensor that work on my prior motor.
Tried another MAF meter
Tried another ecu
changed relays
check the resistance on the inline resistor and its at 6.8ohm (i am a little uncertain here, this goes directly to the minus on the coil via a black and white strip wire?
Check resistance from the wiring for the injectors from terminals 2 and 11 and 2 and 13 and both had 5.5 ohm.
Checked for resistance for the throttle position sensor on terminals 3 and 25 terminals and had no resistance and i have been told they should be between 4000 and 6000 ohms , but had i have power between ground and the 20 terminal, when i move the throttle i had smooth volt reading.
Im thinking this could be the prob but dont understand the correlation on 1 working and 1 not working, normally i wouldn't have power if if i have no ohms, im a little confused.
I also Stripped the efi wiring and checked all splices.
Thanks for any help,
Romaround

well, we can see that it's not diesel - but it may help if you let us know where you are because people in that locality may know a reliable fuel injection service who could readily put their finger on what is causing the apparently rich running
it sounds like you have tried to isolate the problem and haven't been able to ?
100 litres/100km? I'm surprised it even runs. The exhaust smoke must be black!

Ok it sounds like a disco 1, you could have something simple like a failed fuel pressure regulator. Look for signs of fuel in the vacuum hose from the regulator to the manifold connection. Also is the vacuum hose actually connected? This would give excessive pressure at idle.
Hi all,
Its a 3.9 and ya it buckets out allot of black smoke.
Changed the injectors today and cant get it running now, ill have another shot 2mrow.
Ive tried a different pressure regulator as well.
I have called around a few places, but it seem like everyone is booked out untill after xmas, all well, see what tomorrow brings.
mine got to 2km.l and ran.2 trips to work then fill up.
frustrating because you can get little help without having to pay bucket loads.it drove ok but with soot hanging of the tail pipe.
when i made changes i find it wont start and takes a few days to settle.mine didnt blow smoke.
wide tyres also knock consumption on these.
Check your vacuum advance on the distributor. This can contribute to high fuel consumption.
i forgot to add that the new car i bought had camshaft replacment because of poor fuel consumption.
a local mechanic found fault with other disco and $2300 later its runs much better than mine.
