Transfer case oil leak
Ive just noticed we are starting to get a oil leak from the transfer case.
Looks like it is coming from in between the main case and the front output case.
How hard is it to pull the transfer case out and replace the gasket?? Im guessing its beyond my skill level, so how long / how much would it cost to get a mechanic to do it? any ideas?
Im hoping it will get us back to melb without any repairs (we are now in perth) so need to keep a close eye on it.
cheers

How fast is the leak? Check it daily until you get a feel for how much you are losing. Tighten any bolts in the affected area.
I suspect the leak is coming from the transfer case input seal, this runs down around where you are looking. Pulling out a transfer case isn't that hard, but a concrete floor, a trolley jack and a lifting adaptor make it safer. You need two 10mm by 200mm long threaded guide studs to enable the case to be guided back onto the box to prevent damaging the new seal.
