Interested in the outcome here... please post when you've fitted the new viscous fan? Sounds identical to a problem I'm having on my Disco 300tdi.

Same symptoms on my 300 TDI.When motor is hot[switched off] the fan can easily be turned by hand ie freewheel. Will lock it up with a couple of self tap screws to see if it makes a difference?

Locking the fan/hub on a LR is not regarded as a Good Idea, due to the LR fan's inability to keep itself together at such high RPM. - Wiser and more experienced folk here warn of blades flying off.

I was fortunate with my old Crown, fan had been bolted solid for a long time before I got it, and it was still in one piece 2 years later when it was Euthanased...

Been looking after my own health for a while, so the Event Horizon has been parked up on charge. The few times I've driven it have seemed ok...
