    Just ordered 2........thanks

Just out of interest I've only done 300km with the Shell Helix HX3 20/50 + 500ml of Lucas oil stabilzer. I shouldn't have any problems with this oil regarding pressure and quality? Didn't think it worth to change oil this early.

    Cheers

Gauges aren't going to save you in recognizing oil pressure failure ... only a buzzer will give you half a chance, with the red light coming in 2cnd, giving you a smidge of "Chancey luck" save.

(IMHO) a gauge just lets you know is how the motor is holding up over the years. I have one on my 1990 RRC due to it being an old ride when I bought it, and just wanted to know the condition of the donk. Plus I blew the pressure switch in a country town, and installing a gauge was the only way to fix the problem. >>>> Driving 400k's with the oil light ON, kinda keeps you on your toes

Remember .... For my 1990 3.9L V8 oil pump .... The brass fitting supplied with the aftermarket gauge does not fit ... You will have to buy a "close matched" brass fitting with the olive (clamp) joint and re-cut the (brass) thread .... 1/2" UNF from memory ... Bought and still have the dye to check, if you need to know.

    Cheers
    Mike

I have seen a few adapters for the rv8 you can buy on the net that allow for both pressure switch and gauge, I'll get one of these.

I'm glad everything sounds good on startup, no noises at all, but the 5 secs still not good, atleast the bit of Lucas oil should help with the first start in the morning.

    Cheers

I should think the oil will be fine

Incidentally; I had the same problem when I bought some Coopers filters from the UK. I deduced that they can't have had an anti-drain-back valve, so I bought the Mahle and the problem went away

I have found over 20 years of RRC ownership that Ryco filters have as low a failure rate of the anti drainback valve as any and recently that the Chinese ones are very good in that regard. It depends on the quality of the valves used as there are different qualities available.
I have anti drainback valves leaking in Cooper, OEM and Ryco but it only happens very occasionally and from day 1. I have also used Purolator which were very good.

I tried to get Mann from Western Filters but they claimed that Mann did not import the size for RRC a couple of years ago.
IMHO it is not worth stuffing around trying to get "unobtainium " filters.

    I agree Phillip ...

    I mainly use Ryco ...
I've never had problems with filters ..

    I've got a Coopers Z1159 on my 90 RRC and a Ryco Z89a on my 95RRC ...
.... Z89a & Z9 are just general Ford 6cyl sizes.... and I have owned Fords & RRC's for most of my time

I've had problems with oil lights and spun a new filter on to check ... But always found the problem to be the pressure switch .... I just change the oil pump gears on the RRC as a way to ensure that the pressure is optimum ...

Personally ... Just change the filter ... and if that makes no change ...
Install the oil gauge and see whats going on pressure wise ...

Then .... Rip out & redo the oil pump gears and gaskets ... Checking the float gaps and the relief valve along the way.

BTW ... I use Permatex Aviation gasket sealant (Holimar 3) ... which is a non hardening (black tar like goo) ... Excellent sealant and goes on thin as, and I have never had a problem with it ... .

Take "Mr Silicon" and toss it in the bin

    Cheers

    Okay, Quick update.

Put on the Mahle filter and not much change- Took 4 secs for oil light to go out after leaving it sit for 1 day I will install oil pressure gauge and see what the real story is.
