    battery light

    Hi fellas, the battery light has decided to stay on after i start the discovery td5 would this be a fuse or a diode in the alternator,would i be best take it to an auto elec to check it out, any help greatly apreciated.

    This is usually when the the alt isn't ouputting charge. Do you have a multimeter? If so, check the voltage with the engine off and then running. If its not at or above 13.8 running, then its time to rebuild or renew the alt.

    check the fuses first the excite for the alternator comes from a bizzare route.

    If you know what your doing with the ignition on but the engine stopped check the input on the output and excite plug for the alternator if theres power there then its the alternator brushes.

    Thanks fellas, i checked the battery when running and it was only 12.2 v .looks like a trip to the auto elec
