    CDL in Disco 2

I have a 2000 discover 2, which has been fitted with a CDL activation cable by John E Davis Motorworks.

According to the info sheet I found in the owners handbook when I bought the vehicle "when low range is selected he diff lock is automatically engaged and the diff lock light will be displayed" All good so far.

It then says "if low range is selected while the ignition is ON as well as diff lock the vehicle will still have the traction control/ABS feature enabled. To disable the traction control/ABS feature the vehicle should be turned off, low range selected and the vehicle then restarted. This will activate diff lock only"
this doesn't make sense to me as I can't see how it would work.
Also, no mater how I select it, in low range I get so much wheelspin and mud sprayed all over the vehicle I have to assume TC is inactive in low range. It works great in high range

If anyone can give me some advice on activating traction control and CDL at once in low range I would really appreciate it.
    Cheers,
    Alex

If you engage your CDL with the motor running, ABS and TC will still be enabled.
There ae times when being able to turn off TC is useful, sand is a prime example. All the aftermarket CDL's will disable TC and ABS if the CDL is engaged with the engine off.
You shold remember this especially when you get to a campsite with your CDL engaged. When you start the car in the morning you will need to disengage it and then re-engage with the engine running to have TC and ABS.
By the way, when your TC is working, the little yellow light on the dash will come on, and you will hear it working too.

And TC in low range will still throw mud!

The torque in Low requires more effort to hold back but the TC is distributing the drive still...

Thanks Tombie - I was worried I had problems, but now it sounds like everything is fine

BTW, Bruce Davis runs his Davis Performance Landys business from the same location at Amaroo Park where his brother, John, and he ran John E Davis Motorworks.

After all these years I still have not found a situation where I didn't want the ETC to be active, including in soft sand.

I interupted the wire from the CDL switch on the transfercase with a switch on the dash. If you have CDL locked in and turn the Disco off, you can then use this switch when starting to keep the ETC active.

    I'm the same Slunnie,

Cut the wire and don't look back

Look in the instillation instructions on the ashcroft web page for their D2 CDL kits as an alternative way of keeping TC on and diff locked.
