    gearbox numbers

hi guys can anyone put me on to a page with gearbox identification/no have to put clutch in soon, so i have 2 box;s thought i might get one checked out and whack that in as well. tried all the local mob;s around my area (hornsby)got the same answer, when i asked if they can be visually checked, measured whatever it takes to see if they are ok. NO YOU JUST REBULD THEM.i'll keep looking, the n/o on the top plate i am assumig are not of any use as they could have been changed a dozen time;s. but the one's down the side between the front wheel drive are 503402 on the other 526257B and below both are vaf-Lm22w can anyone tell me what iv'e got, and which would be the better one to have looked at, it's a big job to put one in only to find it's noisy . thanks markus

So, it's a Series 1 Landrover, fitted with a standard landrover 4 speed gearbox/transmission,the only difference in the units is the bolt pattern on the bellhousing to block (in your case the adaptor) the early(S1/6cyl) bellhousing has the top bolt at 12 O'clock and the later (4cyl 2.25)has the top bolts at 11 O'clock and 1O'clock the clutch splines should be std landrover but the pressure plate is the major factor (height) as it is the main factor in clutch action.

gearbox numbers are on the top diagonal face of the transfer case and is usually about a 6 or 8 figure No. Series 2/2a's are 2 series No's and series 3's are 9 series No's
