    Soft Heads - 3.5 Rover

    Gday

    Doing a set of heads on a 1983 3.5

It originally blew both gaskets between the water gallery and No.1 and No.2 after it was overheated

I have just had the heads hardness tested. The are both on the low side, the lower one being 61

The fella at the place that did the work seems to think I may get away with it

I would just like to hear from anyone who has fitted a set of soft heads and how long did they last?

Bear in mind this is a farm vehicle that is no longer driven on the road and is only used to bomb around the paddocks.

It does have a spare engine, and there is a possibility I could pinch the heads off the spare engine if I had too

    Any advice welcome

    Thanks

When I did a short stint at an engine reconditioners they would reject heads that read 60. Unless they were from very rare engines that replacements were unavailable for. So should be ok for a paddock bomb.

    On the subject of heads

I was hoping I would get some tensions when I bought the head gaskets (the 300Tdi head gaskets come with the info in the packet)

    But there was no info

If anyone one has a manual, is there any chance they could please let me know the head tension, rocker shaft tension and inlet/exhaust tension?

    Please

Edit: Never mind, should have searched Google first
