    Inline air filter with snorkel?

Has anyone here used an inline filtter instead of the standard airbox/filter with a snorkle setup?

I'm looking at a specter unit Spectre Performance - Official Site

I think this might flow better and give me even more room.
Should also allow me to use any snorkle setup as I dont have to worry about the specific air box components. Just pick it up wher it comes through the guard.

BTW, mines a Seriers 1 V8 Dicovery in case any of you guru's have some advice with regards to using a setup like this.

I suppose I could fabricate a housing for any filter, but the cost vs time usually means just buy one.

Are these types of filters no good for our vehicles? I ran a similar k & n on one of my sports cars. Excellent flow and filtration. Experiances would be appreciated.

K&Ns are useless filters. Even K&N admit they aim for a low capture efficiency, and don't even achieve that. These filters are no different.

Anyone who uses a filter like that on a 4x4 is asking for trouble.

If you really want an inline filter, look for a Donaldson Powercore. There is an in-line version, and housings available.

Would the Donaldson unit take up any less room and still be more "universal" with respect to a snorkel?

The reason I ask is the PO ov my vehilce has drilled quite a number of holes in the bottom on my standard airfiler (obviously for better airflow and to drain faster). Issue is its not would be impossible to seal when I add a snorkel.

The replacement cost of an standard OE filter box and the convoluted setup required for a snorkle with them made this the perfoect opportunity to look at alternatives. Hence seeking suggestions.

I assume you have the square flat filter? I would buy one of the earlier type of metal-case barrel filter housing from an early D1 (v8 or TDI).
