    300Tdi fan. Solid hub option?

    300Tdi fan. Solid hub option?

The viscous hub on my fan died today, causing the engine to overheat

My Isuzu has a directly coupled plastic fan which has held up for years. Why can't the same be done on a Tdi???

I agree that 300Tdis are gutless pos's - if that is what you are saying, however In this case I would be happy to lose some power in exchange for reliability (and premature death of brand new cylinder heads!).

Since the new head and cooling system overhaul, the needle has never risen above the normal spot. Until today towing the boat. The fan is new, the hub I believe was reused (kicking myself now!) - have to check my receipts to see if I dought a hub or not. The hub feels like it is still OK now the engine is cool, however when it was overheating, you could turn the fan with almost no resistance.

The threads I have found on using ford fans just mention the fan - will the ford viscous hub fit as well as the fan?

    FWIW

From experience a fixed fan hub will knock the stuffing out of the 300TDi at higher revs. My 4BD1T had the large factory turbo fan and viscous hub fitted - the hub died out west in circa 60 degree heat. I locked the hub and drove with it locked for almos three years and recently replaced the vicous resulting in a significant increase in performance above 2000 rpm.

You use the ford hub and fan,it's a simple screw off the old and screw on the new.I paid $20 for mine. Pat

Ben, from memory an OE viscous hub isn't too dear from a crowd like Karcraft or BMI (or whoever the equivalent is in the west)

I replaced mine several years ago 'just in case', even though the old one was still OK.

About six weeks ago the heater header tank let go, even though everything else had been replaced to cover my arse.

BTW, I can post you the old one if you want, or are game
