    Tie rod ends (again)

Probably should have put this in the Tech chatter board, but it's here now

If anyone has a QH tie rod end hanging around and their calipers and pitch gauge handy, could you please measure the thread on the end of the taper pin and the undercut where it goes from the threaded section to the taper please ?

There's a reason for the question.
This from a Gwyn lewis UK Ebay ad.

These are the HEAVIEST DUTY TRACK ROD ENDS to fit a Land Rover that i can find, they are fully greasable, the thread on the taper end is 1/2 inch UNF, most others are 12mm, the undercut on the end of the thread nearest the taper is 11mm, most others are 9.5mm, they also come with a nylock nut on this end, on the end of the main thread nearest the ball joint the thread does not go to the end, there is a taper there that gives more strength to the main boddy. (sic)

Lemforder TRE's are metric and use castellated nuts, so it can't be them, and Delphi look different.

Of course it doesn't address issues such as ball, seat and body materials and heat treatment, but it's interesting and his fabricated stuff is well respected in UK Challenge Truck circles.

Delphi was a General Motors division until sold off a few years ago when GM had money troubles. The bits were probably made to GM engineering standards which are damn good.

I have some new Series LR TREs in the garage and a new P38A TRE. Would you want pics/measurements of them, Rick?

    I doubt they are QH.

    Hi Rick,
An old one that I assumed is a Lamfor (spelling?) is M12X1.75 and the undercut is 10.8mm.

That'd be great Ron, then Simon can add them to 'The Good oil' TRE thread

I think Delphi was spun off in the nineties ?
It also had a solvency issue too at one point.

The Delphi bit's I've used in the past have been damned good Brian.

IMO their 300Tdi lift pump is superior to whoever supplies OEM.

    Back again.

I can confirm that the TRE's pictured above are indeed QH as I now have three new TRE's in my possesion.

The funny thing is that only one looks like the ones above and is greaseable, the other two are sealed and have a metric, 12mm thread instead of 1/2" UNF and are a different construction.

Pics to follow tomorrow, including a comparo to the OE Lemforder TRE's.

I'll try and get a couple of more QH and at least one Lemforder for a bit of a test as they are pretty cheap.
