Tdi 300 not starting
Had a great trip in the Blue Mountains with some SERIOUS 4x4 challenges. On my way back about 10km from home the engine just cut out and I couldn't restart it. The engine turns when I turn the ignition and keeps on turning but just doesn't want to start. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Wire fell off the solenoid on the injector pump? You can easily hot-wire this connection.
Out of fuel/damaged fuel line?
Possum up the air intake?
Anti-theft playing up?

Hi Gyro
First thing to do will be to check you have power to the fuel solenoid on the rear of the injector pump, this should be the only electrical wire in that area, if you don't there is a wiring issue that needs to be fixed?
See how you go,

As the other blokes have said, more than likely the connection on the fuel solenoid, but in my experience corrosion often affects the connection.
Pop it off and clean it up with some scotchbrite and contact cleaner and you should be right to go.

On our D1 the wire was dodgy under the crimp of the lug where it goes onto the tag of the fuel cutoff solenoid.
No power getting through to the solenoid = no go at all.
Cut old crimp terminal lug off, clean the wire with a rubber pencil eraser and crimp a nice bright shiny new one, back on.

If you have power to the shut off solenoid. Try removing the rocker cover and turning over to see if valves move. If they don't, you have a broken timing belt.

Thx Guys, always fearing the worst I also thoigh it was a timing belt but luckily it was the wire on the back of the solenoid. Popped it back on and started first time.
Pity I only discoverd this after a mate in a Toyota towed me the last 5km to my house. Will now never live this one down.
