ZF AUTO IM NOT HAPPY AIR REGAS

Hello everyone . Ive now discovered why my ZF Auto in my 89 rangie has a clogged up Governor .
A week ago I took it and had my Air regassed . When I picked it up it had a whirring noise . Thought it was odd but thought it must have been something to do with my compressor now engaged as hadnt worked since I bought the car .
The very next morning car wont change out of 1st for 500m when cold and is still the same a week later .
Ive since done 400+ kilometers .
The whirring is almost totally gone from drive and neutral but is still very audible in reverse .
Now I read on the net that extended reving in neaural or park after being in drive can cause a blown A clutch whatever that is ! Aparrently when regassing air con the engine is reved considerably and for some time .
Anyhow seems like box failure is now inevitable and anyones guess when !

could indeed be true... there's a heap of info re.earlier model BMWs with the ZF box being stuffed in the USA because of some requirement to rev them incessantly in neutral/park to comply with some Californian air quality test at rego time...

about 10 minutes before you most desperately need it not to fail...

start looking for a spare box now.

Have you check your oil yet? Is it discoloured or smell burn't?
A clutch is the final drive pack up the converter side of the box and can burn up if the seals past. I put teflon seals in mine (elmination kit) and lightly hone the bore where the old seals used to run on to stop it.

If the oil is burn't or discoloured your probably burn't a clutch pack. Needs fully reconditioning.

Whirring noise very common in RRC aircon, just the aircon compressor when it's working, never met a quiet 1 yet.
when regassing the revs only need be bumped up to about 750rpm and thats really to see what temp is coming out the vents

I had a blocked gov valve, same problems as you.
It was shifting perfect when i parked it & then next morning went to go to work & it didn't want to shift out of 1st
there were no noise changes in the trans either
, transmision mob cleaned the govenor valve & fresh oil & filter, but told me it would need a rebuild, it drove perfect whilst i hunted down a good second handy.
another auto mob told me if the trans isn't serviced regularly, which mine wasn't, crap will build up in the gov valve.
also being honest with me told me to keep driving the old 1 to see how long it would last, as the gear changes still felt good.
But i had already bought a low km's second hand 1 and wanted it fitted.

P.S the trans oil was still red & looked ok

possible it's just Coincidence the two things happened together?
