    Starts, won't run

Can anyone give me an idea where to start searching for a electrical problem? When I turn the key the engine fires but when you let the key return the engine cuts out, I have also lost my idiot lights. The engine is a 300tdi I have earth straps every where and the battery is very good the car was running perfectly before this.
    Thanks in advance

The ignition barrel contacts can come loose - undo the lower shroud of the steering column and try holding it together to see if that solves the problem. Otherwise jury rig a wire to power the fuel solenoid.

    Starts, won't run

    Hi Whitedisco94,

Agree with all other comments as I've just fixed a similar problem with my 81 RRC

You need to replace starter switch ......but unfortunately you have to buy the whole new ignition switch (complete with starter switch)

They used to sell the switch separately but not anymore (in WA at least)
New ignition switch my auto electrician sourced cost $80.00c (from series 1 Disco) but he had to alter end fixings from current push on lugs to pullet type lugs used on older RRC.

Supplied and fitted cost me $230.00c

    Cheers

my bet is its a faulty white ceramic resistor next to the coil .

the coil get full 12v from the ign sw when cranking, cuts back to 6-7 volt when running via the resistor

    bypass the resistor to test

    It's a 300TDi, no coil, Regards Frank.

    Agree with others...

The 300TDi is such a simple engine. As long as you can supply the fuel solenoid with 12v & crank the engine... It should run.

To get it going (and therfore prove the theory), run that 12v to the fuel pump solenoid and start her up.
