    2" lift or standard disco 2 td5

My front springs are starting to sag on my discovery
Would I better off putting in a 2" lift or replace with standard springs

I go off road about 2 times a month if I can get a chance cause I fifo

I was looking at ironman lift kits anyone have any experience with them are they any good?? Is it a case of just fitting springs and shocks do I need to modify anything to suit the lift

    Any ideas welcome cheers

    G'day mate.

I have a Disco 2 and about 3 years ago I put in a 2" raised Dobinsin lift. I got it from Hobzees fourby stuff on ebay, (from memory about $800 delivered)
I haven't heard anything bad about the Ironman stuff, and it seems quite popular, so I guess you could take from that that its ok!

The Kit was Very easy to fit, Just coils and shocks, no other mods needed. (it took me and a mate about 3 hours to do)
I did however choose to change the rear tail shaft back to a uni joint one to replace the rubber doughnut.

Have been fourbying lots and no problems!

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers.
    Richard.

It depends... A 2" lift will give you a better approach and departure angle and the possibility of accommodating taller tyres, with modified bump stops for the purists.

If you don't desire the better clearance or taller wheels then I would stick to standard height. i.e. for sand driving you don't need to go higher.

A 2" lift will noticeably affect your steering and add extra stress to your prop shafts uni joints etc...

If you go with 2" extended shocks as well, then you will need to look carefully at your brake lines and ABS leads. I replaced my brake lines with 2" extended hoses and extended ABS leads. Also, you will need to modify the cross member as your prop shaft will drag on it when lifting the drivers side front wheel.

If your vertically challenged like me then you will notice the difference when "climbing" in.

In summary, I'm very happy with my 2" lift, just need some taller play tyres now.

    Cheers
    Ron

    HI,

I've been researching the same as I'm about to lift my Disco 2 TD5 as well. After many hours spent reading on the forum, I've decided to go with Dobinson springs - 45mm XHD linear front and 50mm HD progressive rear with 2" extended Bilstein shocks. Seems to be very well regarded for both on and off the road. Dobinson's here in Sydney will do the install for me.

I'm getting 2" extended stainless steel braided brake lines and there's also a prop shaft spacer thing which you can buy from Les Richmond Automotive through their website. They recommend it for 2" lifts.

I'm looking into extending the ABS line as well - as mentioned in another reply. I haven't read a lot about Ironman although I have read quite a few negative reviews about "Foam Cell" shocks.

I prefer to buy products from brands which actually make them like Dobinsons and Bilstein. Not sure who makes Ironman stuff? I'm not saying they are bad or anything but I just prefer to buy from the actual manufacturer rather than something that is a rebranded product of someone else.

I also have a bull bar on the front with a winch and am planning on getting a steel rear bar as well. Am also looking into rock sliders so I am hoping I have enough clearance and room to fit my Mickey Thompson MTZ's - 265/75/16 once the car is lifted.

I'll find out in about 2 week's time! Will give you some feedback on the setup once it's done.

    Cheers,

    Ernie.

    I have a 2" lift by EFS.

    I would never go back!
