Why does the TD5 run up to 80 degree C fuel temperature?
Looking on the net I have found the some info on the advantages of preheating the diesel to thin the viscosity to improve fuel atomisation and and therefore fuel efficiency, but all that heat in the tank and lines cant be good...
I figure I could plumb the fuel cooler so the coolant would always flow through and being supplied by the lower section of the radiator which flows slower and cools far more lower fuel temperatures could be achieved.
The expected advantages being longer fuel pump life. Fuel hoses and lines less stressed. Regulator last longer, Cooler injectors and denser cooler fuel charge equals more power.
Or is all this just bs.![]()

in theory its all fine but IMHO not worth the effort for the gains that you might make VS the cost of doing it and the risk involved in messing with the pumbing and the coolant flow.

The cooler has a tee piece end with a thermostatic valve? I would be easy to replace that end with the same as the inlet?
Have to replace the cooler o rings eventually.

Exactly what happened to my cooler, starting leaking from the front end after replacing radiator. Easy fix the front one anyway!
My fuel tank feels hot after a long run.
The TD5 is similar to any other common rail diesel in the way the fuel system works, at least the TD5 has a fuel cooler.
There is some discussion here
Fuel Cooler great asset on Common Rail - TDIClub Forums
some guy adds a Transmission cooler to his CRDi Jeep to cool the return line into the tank.
Its just semantics, Yes its got unit injectors, but weather Land Rover calls it one or not its still a common rail Diesel .
TD5 - Discotech.info
The TD5 generates almost all of its injector pressure using a cam lobe that acts on a pump within each injector. The common rail injector is only a valve and an atomiser with the pressure in the common rail being pressurised by a pump and high pressure distribution pipe. Its a different setup, not just semantics.
