    its no more a common rail diesel engine than any of the detroit 2 strokes are...

    if your going to use that it identify it as a common rail engine then all the CAT MTU and (not sure if they use the same setup, I havent pulled one down or seen the paper layout on them) volvo HEUI style engines are all commonrail.

    Its a unit injected engine with each injector containing its own pump.

    the 'common rail' refers to the common fuel 'rail' that feeds all of the injectors, in the case of the TD5 the rail is a hole drilled internally thru the length of the head. Yes Dave, exactly, I guess the Detroit Diesel 2 Stroke must also be a Common Rail too then but the term 'Common Rail' was not about in those days , Volvo HEUI ARE also known as Common Rail.
