    ring gear on a 1953 series 1

    Hi,
Has anyone had to replace the ring gear on a 1953 series 1, it has to be machined off and a new ring gear fitted. What are the pitfalls of having this done?
    Thank you, Papadad

shouldnt require machining to get it off carefull drilling at the tooth root and good lovin with the big hammer and cold chisel should get it off. replacing should be a case of put the ring gear in the over, the wheel in the freezer and then drop the former on the latter.

Actually, it likely does require machining off as most 80" didn't have a two piece flywheel.

Ian Cox from Cox and Turner Engineering in the UK sells replacement ring gear with the instructions on how to do it. But IIRC I have heard of people using the replacement ring gear off 2 1/4 litre flywheels and machining the flywheel to suit.

I seem to remember that Hilton Pollard had some ring gear sitting on a shelf. Contact Master Chief and ask the question.

last 2 I did were already modded, I'll have to have a look see at scallops and find out if the lathe at work will take that size wheel.
