    Td5 Viscous Fan seized

    Hi all

My viscous fan is seized, which saps power and the noise when is driving me insane. Is there anyway to repair the viscous unit? I have tried pouring a little oil where the shaft comes out, which worked for a while but it's seized again now.

Is the fan a complete throw away item ie buy a whole new fan for $300???

    Regards
    Hendrik

    Hendrik,

the fan and hub is one complete unit & they are around the $300 mark.
I doubt you can rebuild it.

Seing that the silicone undoubtedly escaped through the front or rear seal, to refill would only be temporary. Ditto if bearings have seized.

So it is probably a good idea to buy a new one.

PS, do not drive it far with a seized VC or you may have some interesting new "vents" in the bonnet.
