    reservoir cap 89 efi rangie

    Hello everyone .
My 89 3.5 efi rangie expansion tank cap has today broken . Im confused which cap to purchase for replacement as most recovery systems I know of have the cap discharging into the overflow tank where this rangie tank is plumbed straight into system pressure via the bottom radiator hose . Is the proper cap for replacement a 16lb recovery cap or 16lb non recovery type of cap .

Makes no difference, they both hold about 16lb pressure. The only difference between the two caps is a rubber seal around the cap to allow coolant to be sucked back in as the system cools. Not required on the RR header tank as it should never be overfull to the point of losing coolant. Whatever is closest to hand and fits properly is OK.

I need a new one of these too. It was about 12 years back I replaced it, the depth from sealing surface to neck was the critical dimension when looking for a replacement.

I used a recovery type, stops the system vacuuming and means it pressurises a bit easier and pumps bubbles out faster because of that. I'll post back when I get it sorted out, mine is currently in two bits but still sealing.

Exactly what happened to mine . Broke into 2 bits . I bought a replacement (recovery type) at my local auto supplier this afternoon . Measured dimensions with verniers and all is good . $13.50 and Im right again until the next problem arises .
