Had exactly the same problem with my 200TDI , so after fitting a mechanical pressure gauge , sure enough there was NO oil pressure at Idle ,Engine Hot!Cold okay 15psi)
The Hotter it got the less the Idle oil pressure .So obviously a loss of pressure in the Lube system somewher.
Chenge Bigends, changed Mains ,new oil pump , all bearings and pump in amazingly good condition for 300,000 (Remember its a 200TDI not a POS 300TDI)
So after all that didnt improve the NO oil pressure problem at idle at all.
Again remove sump ,check a;ll bearing clearances ,all good as new !
Then , Noticed this heavy oil run back stain at the rear RHS of block .
Yep.rear Cam Bearing had Travelled out of bore , and probably rotated as well
To fix, pull engine ,total strip down Cam bearing replacement !
Nah , crank the idle up to 1500 RPM and ignore light !!!
For the 300 ,as the man said ,check bigends and mains ! after you verified the switch is okay.
