Question V8 engine number information, please, gurus...

I have RR engine in my possession with the prefix 674D, followed by xxxxxA. Is this engine a service replacement block (as a warranty replacement slipped liner fault, perhaps) or sourced somewhere else?

I have no history to get a bead on this block, and the prefix doesn't come up in any search I've attempted.

Can anyone shed some light on it? LC (8.23:1), engraving in the normal 'dot' manner of original blocks.

All the new replacement engines I've seen through work start with 'S' (for Spares?).
Lately, remanufactured engines are the norm & they come without a number.

Sorry I can't help with yours but it doesn't sound like a replacement engine IME.

674D does not suit the prefix sequence of any Rover V8 I know.

The usual sequence is 2 digits and a letter or a numeric prefix with a letter suffix.

I can't even find a 74D prefix, so I can understand your confusion.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Thumbs up I ought wear glasses (more often)

Scott, you're on the money. A closer look at the article shows S74D....A, so this would indicate a service replacement engine block (at least) in this vehicle.

Probably good thing, and maybe as replacement for slipped liner problem.

    Thanks for your info,

Chances are, it was done under warranty seeing as it's a Land Rover replacement engine.

    PM sent.
