    Deefers stuff up..But!

Stripped a rear drive flange on the deefer,50ks from home,...Bit of a worry when your sitting in the middle of the road all revs and no go

Not being absolutley sure at what was going on ..so decided to engage centre diff lock and bingo !!, she moved, off we went sat on 80ks, and drove it all the way home...the thing that surprised me was that there was no diff wind up what so ever, as it was all black stuff right to the front gate , Theres no way our 100s yota would have gone that distance without the front diff having a hernia, A big advantage with the Defender drive system

You won't get any windup with the CD locked as you've effectively disconnected the drive at the rear with your stripped drive flange.

Any part time system would be effected exactly the same, no mysterious advantage for a fulltime system there.

[edit] Sounds like a good time for some Hi-Tough flanges and axles and oil lubed hubs

    no great surprise.

with no reliable connection from one side of the rear diff to its rear wheel there was an escape for the wind up.

    Try this...

While you still have the broken flange in place.

chock the front wheels ,select Neutral and Engage the CDL, release the park brake and jack up the wheel with the stuffed splines, whip off the axle cover and watch the axle.

Turn the wheel and it should turn while the axle remains stationary. Release the CDL and turn the wheel again, if theres any resistance you should be able to turn the axle by turning the wheel.
