300TDI Big Ends
After reading various threads about a dodgy batch of bearings in the 1998 300tdi motors, decided to check the vin on the Disco. It's number of WA787476 is I believe,in the affected range.Yesterday changed them out and to my untrained eye they did not look too bad for 254,000ks a bit of wear on the edges, some pitting on #3 and what looked like pitting on the rear of #1 caused some spot wear.I assume the difference in colour on the back of the bearings is from the upper bearing being subjected to greater load/temperature?Hopefully all good for another >200000.IMGP9215.jpgIMGP9216.jpgIMGP9219.jpgIMGP9217.jpg

Dont stress about the discolouring on the back of the bearing its just staining , Your bearings look fine for that amount of ks , I changed mine at 300 ks and they had more wear than your bearings and mine was a 95 model

Thanks for the confirmation that no dramas with the old shells.I bought two sets from Turners, to justify the freight cost,so will put the other set in the 1995 Disco which has 300000ks on the clock.Well!when I get around to it.

My 96 TDi HAS 340000 on the clock and I have no intentions of replacing them in the foreseeable future, unless I receive advice that suggests I should.
Dave.
