my rear sliding windows rattle horribly, the seals must be perished, I have rung around and no one seems to sell replacements. What is the common fix? Is there one?
The original material is just felt, which rots away. These days it's generally replaced with flocked rubber. Up here in Brisbane a lot of us get it from The Rubber Shop (which I have just noticed has been sold and renamed). Anyway, they will be able to freight it to you, but I'm sure there would be somewhere in Sydney that would supply it. Someone is bound to jump in with a name.
As for doing the replacement, the proper/complete way is to remove the window from the vehicle (drilling out the rivets) and dismantling the frame, but you can get by through pushing the rubber in with the glass in place, in the vehicle. You'll have a gap of a couple of inches top and bottom, but it doesn't affect the windows' operation.
Do a couple of searches on the forum. It's been documented many times.
oh yeah - you'll be amazed how much you will appreciate the new found access to the rear - in my case I have a centre divider and top shelf with a fridge slide down one side - access past the fridge is almost impossible without the lift up door. You can chuck on an led strip light and in my case I have an awning on the side so at night its great - swag under awning, access clothes bag/s or whatever is down the side of the fridge and light as well. just a thought
