    ABS, TC, HD lights on

    Hello,

I am a new owner of a 12 years old Disco II. It's a 2000 Disco II Td5. Unfortunately the ABS, TC, Hill Descent lights remains on when the car ignition is on. I need a Pink Slip (NSW) to get my car re-registered soon but the mechanic tells me that I cannot get the Pink Slip unless the lights remains off, and that I possibly need to replace the whole ABS/TC/HD module to fix the problem at a whoopping price in excess of $5000 (that is slightly under half the price for what I paid for the car!).

Firstly, what could the problem be and is there a better way to approach the problem so that I can get my Pink Slip? Is a reset possible?

    Thanks in advance

    Eric

You need to get the codes read and see if it is a wheel sensor or the modulator itself that is at fault.

You then need to speak to another Mechanic.

Our local main LR dealer quoted supply and fit on a new modulator at 1600$

There is also a modulator repair kit that you can fit with a new switch pack that costs around 160$ and takes a couple of hours, or a wiring mod that can be done that fixes it in some cases.

Thanks for this. I will contact you again once I get the codes read for your advise.

    Thanks very much again

I would be looking for dirt in the sensor air gap (most common problem).

Failing that check the wires from the sensors on the suspension for damage.

Failing that checking the actual sensors,

Failing that looking at the ABS shuttle valve for dirt etc (I believe rebuild kits are now available). A brake fluid change might help - problems are often caused by dirt in the brake fluid.

Failing that - I guess a new module.

Look at the easy things first - get the codes read and this should show where to start looking first.

The 3 Amigios are a common D2 issue as it is in the Freelander 1 and I also have suffered the same problem - all mine have been crud in the air gap between a wheel sensor and the rotor (a gentle squirt with the hose or compressed air has fixed it). I change my brake fluid often so have not had a modulator problem.

Good luck with it. $5000 - I would be taking it elsewhere.

Hi Mine was repaired for $1400.00, No probs since. There are also a big list of fixes for this prob on this site. (The Good Oil).

I recently got the lights back and after getting the faults read (intermittant fault LH front wheel sensor/ Intermittant fault front rh wheel sensor) Replaced the front disc pads which were still servicable but squeeling a bit, problem gone!

As suggested find someone near you with a Nanocom, get the faults read before you go any further. Avoid the dealers, If you ask the question on here there is sure to be a member close that can test it for you (Might cost a few beers).

Heads up for all people who own D2s

Go to the D2 section of this forum. (Which will then refer you to the Good Oil)

My left one on fixing most of your problems for $15.00.

What you have is what is referred to as 3 amigos. This forum would not exist if not for 3 amigos.

    Regards
    Andrew

P.S. Mountain Man: Your mechanic is a idiot.

Your mechanic is not a Land Rover specialist.

Where are you located? If you are in the Blue Mountains, I can try to reset the lights (no charge) as I have the diagnostic computer and you can get an inspection nearby at a Land Rover specialist. I'm at Emu Plains.

Thanks to all for your input. I am in Maitland. Thanks for your offer Ron. I am getting it seen by a mechanic next friday to see if he can tell me the code and to reset it. If it doesn't work, I might have to come visit you in the Blue Mountains.

Thanks again to all for helping me deal with the three amigos.
