    steering box on disco 1

    Hi all,
    Well the steering box has pooped the bearings thru to the pump.
    What else would I be looking at replacing besides the bearings to get the box back to being AOK.

    Is that possible? I pesume you're talking about ball bearings, if that is the case I would say a new or reconditioned box would be on the shopping list, and more than likely a pump as well, Regards Frank.

    How could bearings get through the filter in the reservoir?

    Am only going on what my mechanic has told me.

    Will ask the guy who is doing it Monday exactly what went wrong with the pump.

    I am thinking that if there are ball bearings in the pump resevoir they are probably from the steering pump and not the steering box, the steering box may be OK, regards Frank.

    Hi Tank,
    The steering box is shot as well.This happened to a mates disco(same year as mine) late last year.The pump went and he had to get the box done as well.

    Havent been able to get onto the bloke as I have been busy fixing things that have gone bung on me around the house.

    Update,
    Apparently one of the O rings disintegrated and then the piston ring pooped itself and shed itself thru-out the box and pump.
    $1500 for pump and slightly bigger internal box and its all good.He replaced some of the parts with steel so I wont ever have the problem again.
