TD5 2002 Defender rear fog light wiring
I wish to be able to activate the rear fog light without having to have my main lights on. Basicly change the standard switch with a simple on/off switch.
However I can't find the the power wire to the fog light. The standard switch seems activate a relay(?) which must be current sensitive to the main beam.
Would really appricate it if someone could point me to the right spot to find the main power to the fog light. I gather it comes off a relay some where.
Thanks

Not to speak out of turn, or knock what you're trying to do, but i can't see why you would want a rear fog light (to be used in fog i assume), to come on without the headlights, i think it is dangerous and stupid to not have your headlights on yet alone the courtesy to allow other motorists to see you easily, i actually drive with my headlights on all the time in the bush, bit of a habit. If you're wanting to use the rear fog light wiring for aything other than a fog light and remove the initial function (the fog lights cancel when lights turned off) then the car will probably not pass a roadworthy, just some food for thought. essentially you just need a power feed and pick up an active for the relay from the ingnition circuit for it to work as you wish though, but probably not legal.

As far as I can see you can't just provide a +feed to the switch you actully have to find the power wire to the fog light to by-pass the a relaty (?) providing power to the fog light.
I'm assuming I'll have to bypass the original relay which isn't a problem.
So I need to identify/find which relay feeds the the fog light.
I'm thinking of replacing the fog light with a work/reversing light haven't decided yet.
Understand that if you have a "fog" light it has to be wired through main beam but you don't have to have a fog light.

I understand where you are coming from, so you basicaly want another reverse light (clear lense) where the fog light was? I was just under the opinion that if the car had factory fog lights they would have to be retained, you could always add another circuit and run to some lights on the roof or something, and have a separate switch, just check with your roadwrothy guy, whether or not it is legal to remove the fog light function, i like the idea though, tis not as though we get fog very much, would be really handy. Maybe grab a wiring diagram off rave or something and have a look how its all wired.

Have the wiring diagrams finding them hard to identify the specific relay where the fog lights gets its power.
The long way will be to trace the wire back from the light/fuse box but very cramped and tight wiring.

I would imagine the relay would be down with the flasher relay behind the 'how to use 4wd' plate in-front of the gear sticks.
I would check for you but...
I have ditched the fog light all together.
found that there are reverse light wiring behind the fog light.
clear lens and swap the wiring and presto!
a reversing light on both sides =]
