    Military Paint Options?

I'm going to paint my defender 110. I was considering gloss bronze green in 2 Pack. But because the thing is covered in dents and imperfections, I figure 2 Pack would be wasted and a matt/satin paint would be a better option. It would look tough too. So I pop in to the local paint supplier and ask about Protec military green- which is the real stuff. I believe it is oil resistant enamel. They contact Protec who advise you have to be in the military and have authorization from some military board to buy it. Too hard. I don't think they know I can go and buy an ex-military vehicle covered in the same paint. So what is the best option for matt green paint? What do restored military vehicles have on them? Thanks for any advice.

That is nonsense - Capital Paints in Fyshwick stock it and sell direct to the public without any authorisations so I would expect that a paint supplier near you can get it.

I bought 8 litres of Protec Olive Drab a little while back no problems.

Thats codswallop. Protec paints at minto have supplied me with several 4l tins of olive drab and also spray packs of camoflage black without any authorisation needed.

What ever you do dont ask for their camoflage tan (desert sand) thought. That one is monitored and requires authorisation of the kind you wont get.

    WHY!!!!???

Surely if you go into any paint shop and ask for a colour, provide a sample, they can mix anything for you.

I'm not sure anyone would knock back a sale on a particular colour, as far as I'm aware there are no restricted colours in the paint scheme - tan is tan and sand is sand so not hard to duplicate.

When we bought the last lot of black they told us green and tan were now controlled because of the infrared absorbing qualities. (its a big secret)

Possibly the same colour but the new paint has infrared aborsbing qualities that make it almost invisable to night vision
