Thread: td5 disco rear door wont open

Have you been driving on any dusty dirt roads recently ?

This has got to be the biggest design fault on the Disco. Dust gets into the rear door mechanism and clags up its operation. Had this problem several times travelling around Australia. Generally a couple ok K's more and it frees itself. I've had the whole thing apart several times to clean out and lubricate. One problem was that lubrication helped retain the dirt. In the end I used powdered graphite which worked OK. If there's a more permanent solution I don't know what it is.

Had this happen to me.
I had to climb over the back seats and remove the rear door trim to get at the internals and clean them up and open the door from the inside.
Needs doing every so often.
After it happened the first time I have always been reluctant to put in a full cargo barrier and locking myself out from both sides.

Me too.....at 70 finding it difficult to clamber into rear of vehicle to open rear door.....Took lock out of door and cleaned it out....did my best to gemove burrs and bends in things caused by wear and tear over the past twelve years ... also adjusted striker and filed away damage caused there.... replaced lock works fine now....Best of luck....peter

70? I find it @#$#$%@ hard at 60!!

Had this happen to mine recently and posted up same question.

Plenty advice including giving the handle some gentle persasion with a really good tap to the mechanism.

Did this to mine and all good, door opens again.

As its the same door as a D1 i'm not sure if the mechanism is the same, on D1's there is a spring which brakes means you need to turn the key at the same time as pulling the latch to open it, i had a box fall on the snibber of the D2 when we were camping (with a cargo barrier) dad started pulling the cargo barrier out and diging stuff out, i walked up held the button on the key adn pulled the latch at the same time, came open.
