    Suspension setup - Classic Rangie

    Hi All

I have had my 88 Rangie for a while now and have been happy to leave the suspension as it came as I have had other things to sort out first. The spring in it are unknown, however are about a 3" lift with the front shocks being pedders and the rear konis. Its all still working however the shocks are getting a bit long in the tooth and the spring don't articulate as much as I would like.

Im thinking about sorting out new springs and shocks. I don't want to just go buy a off the shelf kit, rather I want to custom setup something for the type of driving I do. The range is a dedicated weekend warrior, tough trip vehicle so good suspension travel (up and down is a must) and good dampening from the shocks for the bumps.

So I am after the wisdom of the forum to work out how I go about customising my setup. I am thinking of going LRA springs (of what sort I don't know) and then getting a good yet cheapish shocks to the right lengths. How do I do this though?

    Your wisdom is welcomed!

    Angus

Dont skimp on the shocks, springs there are lots to chose from but i'd be spending more on the shocks and getting the right length to suit the springs.

So It's get the springs first and then match the shocks?

How you have your vehicle setup with accessories and what you carry will make a difference. I run 2 inch lifted King Springs and Koni Shocks which are adjustable and rebuildable. With this setup I haven't needed to change the castor etc, pretty much the same setup I've had in rangies since the late 90's and it works well for me. You might require a body lift also depending on the tyres you're wanting to run.

I already have a body lift and 35s. Just looking at how to best sort out the suspension.

Yeah pretty much although i'd be trying to match both , since your running 35"s you'll want to utilise as much articulation as possible.
I think L/Cruiser shocks inverted work well for the rear and maybe GQ for the front.

I think you may have that backwards Toy 80 series in what ever flavour for the front and Nissan in the rear....but that is a bit generic, as different brands have different lengths...like Koni, I run there 80 series + 2 inch shock in the front of my 110

Yeah just going off memory, i know GQ fit the front as i had GQ koni's in my old rangie - off course custom shocks can be bought but the GQ/LC are off the shelf lengths.

The Nissan fronts are about an inch longer stroke than stock. You may be safe with stock brake lines.
The toyota fronts are about two inches longer stroke than stock, You will need longer brake lines.
