    CDL am I equipped

Hi All first post on here so i may be in the wrong area but please let me know. Im heavily in 4x4 and have had many before but its my first disco and im searching for a few simple answers to get me rolling in the right direction (up a sandy Hill).

First silly questions is does my disco have cdl its 10/01 build. Also i have the three amigos after 2 days of owning the vehicle after hitting a speed bump, assuming its just an abs sensor playing up does every one recomend the amigo vs1... went off road for the first time on the weekend with the three amigos on and had a blast possibly due to no tc as i was in deep sand with tyres at about 20psi. Any comments or feedback is a great help.

    Where in Perth

Hi and welcome to the site,

Where in Perth are u, there maybe someone close with a nanocom so you can see what the issue is with amigos.

Mine is an early 01 and has the internals for the CDs so you maybe lucky if it has there will be a spigot for the lever on top of the front out put housing on the transfer box

Hi roger Bodans my name I live north of the river in Mullaloo don't know much about the tool you talk of but am genuinely interested. I have tried to look for the little knob on top of the transfer case but didn't have much luck will try with a mirror and let you know i would like to be able to use it to lock the centre diff and disengage the tc as most of the time im doing soft deep sand work and plan to do it manualy every time. Also I'm looking for a good disco service north of the river any one got any recommendation

mines a 06/01 build and does not have cdl internals, its unlikely a 10/01 build would have sorry. But you will need cdl for soft sand so I found out..

Step 16 so pic of centre diff lock

Thanks, looks like I should have done this research before buying. I will definitely need to loose the tc then. Can this just be done with a switch inline in the blue black wire goin into the number 9 pin in the slabs harness to fool the system. Any have any suggestions before I look for a new disco which I don't realy want to do but I mainly do sand work so might consider it....

without traction control and no cdl I imagine you would just have one wheel spinning slipping in the sand.
You need a sec hand transfer case from wreckers around $800

Good point but I'm thinking one wheel is better than no wheels after tc eventually stops me in my tracks. Am I better off looking for a case out of say a 2004 disco as supposedly they have it built back in. Any thoughts.

I wouldn't sell a good D2 for another just for CDL. I would grab a 2nd hand box from a 99 or 00 model with a genuine or after market shifter. Or complete set up from D2a will see you right. Some have managed to get just the CDL internals/ housing separately.

Regardless of the way you go about it, you need a shifter of some sort. Those who think a 10mm spanner is the go for other than an emergency are kidding themselves.

Can't for the life of me see why anyone wants a D2 without TC. Would have been better off Just buying a D1 or anything earlier.

    Cheers

    x2 on that point!!

Ashcroft in the UK sell an upgrade kit which provides the missing CDL internals for the existing TC. I believe this can be done in situ.

Ashcroft Transmissions - CDL Update Kit

The only way to completely disable ETC is to remove the fuse. This knocks out your ABS/ETC/HDC and EBD.

PIN 9 on the SLABS ECU is the sensor for the diff lock switch. The pre-facelift D2's disabled TC when the CDL was locked to prevent damage to the transfer case. The CDL was supposed to only be locked for rolling road testing, so a locked CDL was the sign a mechanic had forgotten to disengage it.

Cutting the wire to PIN 9 allows TC to operate when the CDL is intentionally engaged off-road. It's a bit of a kluge as the SLABS ECU is fooled into thinking the CDL is unlocked. The better option (imo) is to upgrade the SLABS ECU to the one fitted to the MY04 D2's. This had improved ETC and ABS programming, and is less susceptible to faults caused by low ABS sensor output.

    cheers

Traction Control + Locked CDL works really well in the D2.
You need an early D2 transfercase with the CDL equiped, simple swap.
I have used mine with the CDL locked and TC disabled, only in the softest sand when you are stuffed is it better not to have the TC operative.
With the early D2s,its a simple key off restart with the CDL engaged to disable the TC
If you accidently stall whilst in CDL lock and want to retain TC make sure you dont switch the key to off during re-start.
Did you get an ACE equipped D2??? they seem to go quite a bit better as the computer unlocks the system at low speeds in low range giving more articulation than a non ACE equiped D2.
